SECOND POSTT
a half a year in recap... I finished the legs on my first giraffe, although slight modifications need to be made to make the hind legs seem more like 2 legs than just one. The second giraffe is underway.. This is a very long spread out project.
To the left(or so), is a sketch book that I made for one of my classes in my final semester at college! Here is a picture of the binding on the book. We were supposed to do a traditional binding, but traditional just isn't my style. The book is fairly easy to make. you just paint on 2 canvases one for the inside and one for the outside. You then cut Davy board and glue it to the canvases using PVA glue, this works best. (if you want specifics on sizes I can provide them, I just don't have them right in front of me). For this particular project we had to make our clasp involve metal and we were required to rivet the metal to the book.
The next book we made had to have a metal front and back cover, and you had to patina, sauder, and use rivets. I designed a sailboat and decided that the mast was going to be saudered to the Main Sail. and everything else was to be riveted on to the metal. First I had to cut the metal. Second, I had to patina the background metal, and since I was making a boat it was only appropriate to patina it blue. I made a mixture of ammonia, Styrofoam, salt, and those spiky balls that come off trees into a Tupperware container, let it sit for a couple of day and you have blue metal with a funky texture. I also patina-ed the hull of the boat so that it would be brown. The hull was just soaked in an antiquing solution for only 5 mins or so. While the patina process was going on I was saudering the mast onto the mainsail. Once all that was done I was able to rivet all the pieces onto the blue metal. At the top you will see 8 rivets, 2 pairs of four, this is for Coptic binding.
If you found my website because you want to learn how to do Coptic binding, please comment, I couldn't find anywhere online that explained it very well. I marbleized the paper that went on the inside of the book. Here are some nice pictures of the whole book.

I'm Walkin on Sunshine
Just decided to get a blog, so that I can put up my quilt / future quilts. The idea came from mi mama aka. madam quilter. The quilt in that picture is one that I made for my Senior Project in high school. I actually got the idea from a poster that my brother (Luke) has of Dave Matthews, not sure of the whereabouts of the poster currently, sorry Luke. My mom (who helped out tremendously) and I traced the quilt on to freezer paper and ironed it to the fabric cut and sew. The guitar is made from about a mile of metallic red thread that I thread painted. She taught me everything I needed to know =) It won Best Amateur Entry in Fort Washington, and I apologize I can't remember if it was an AQS show or what.

some videos of mine
Peace Train-
the music is Cat Stevens - Peace Train
I actually wrote and made this movie for my art class...Peace Train
There are billions of ways to interpret this movie; Im not even sure which one I like best. When I started this movie the overall theme/question lingering in my mind that I wanted people to see was; After the 200+ years this country has been active, after oppressing black people forcing them to be slaves, not giving them the right to vote, after women were not allowed to vote, after telling immigrants of any color they cannot be citizens of America because they are not white, after all that you would think this country would learn that everyone deserves a fair and equal opportunity, yet still today people that are considered gay or lesbian cannot marry whom they love and admire, and immigrants are being shunned out of this country while their own country is hurting them. I think the movie turned out to be more about hope and peace that one day we will all be equal. I really wanted whoever was watching this to get emotional, which is why the pictures move the way they do; at first going to the beat of the music, then telling a story about Americas history keeping in mind that this song was written in 1975. There are a couple of hidden secrets I added to my movie either on purpose or accident. Such as the one mistake that I just forgot to change; Ill give you a hint it has to do with not being American, but instead North American. And one of the pictures I actually took myself. I hope you enjoyed the movie as much as I did making it.
